FAIR PLAY

Performance/single-channel video, 02:08, 2000.

The video work Fair Play is based on a paradox. It shows a man and a woman dressed in white with black shadows, simulating a race. A closer examination of the work reveals the reason for their strained movements and torment: they are forced to drag their heavy partners tied to their feet around. This work questions gender constructions and archetypal opposites like male-female, life-death, black-white, attraction-repulsion and love-hate. Fair Play is produced for the exhibition Anti-Feminism/Anti-Machismo, XXL Gallery, Sofia, Bulgaria and is shown at the Tirana Biennial 1 in Tirana, Albania (2001).
